SS2 didn’t start out as a sequel to the first game, but it turned out that way after EA suggested that the title be called System Shock. It was the Fall of 1999, and System Shock 2 invited us back into SHODAN’s grasp all over again. And after EA agreed to publish the title, the project that would emerge became the sequel that many believed not only matched the original System Shock for its immersive power but pushed well past it in several other ways. Once you arrive at the Brain chamber, you'll first have to destroy the floating defense nodes which psionically protect the Brain, and then eradicate the Brain itself and escape.Five years would pass until Looking Glass Studios would tap Irrational Games on the shoulder with a proposal to work on something together. In order to annihilate the Body of the Many, you'll have to destroy several nerve clusters (which allow you to pass through the sphincters which divide one portion of the Body from another). Numerous creatures of the Many live within it, acting as defensive organisms akin to white blood cells. It is also partially present inside them, such as in the Hydroponics Deck. The Body is shown on ship sensors as having wrapped itself around the two vessels. It is a huge alien organism, complete with internal organs and digestive system. Once soldier enters the Body using UNN Rickenbacker's Escape Pod, there is no going back. The Body of the Many is the eighth and penultimate level explored in System Shock 2.
